Acer Nitro 5 vs Dell G3

Acer Nitro 5 and Dell G3 are two entry level notebook gamer options available in the market. Both Acer and Dell laptops bring common specifications, such as Nvidia video card, 15.6 inch screen and Full HD resolution. Nevertheless, it’s important to pay attention to the differences, such as the use of SSD or superior GPU models, such as GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, for example. Check out more details about the two laptops below and find out which one is best for you.

Design

The design on both models follows the pattern found on other gamer computers, with more robust lines, room for ventilation and lights on the keyboard. Despite this, the Dell G3 has a more appealing proposal, bringing black or white finish and blue details, while the Nitro 5 is only available in red and black.

Besides the look, the weight of gamer notebooks in general is usually a little heavier compared to ordinary laptops, mainly because of the more powerful hardware. The G3, for instance, reaches 2.34 kg, while the Acer model is 2.7 kg. Another difference is the thickness, 2.68 cm on Nitro 5, while the Dell PC is 2.16 cm. This can make the difference when carrying the computer in your backpack, for example, but shouldn’t get in the way of everyday life.

In terms of interfaces, Acer’s product comes with RJ-45 port to connect to the Internet via Ethernet cable, USB-C, HDMI, a USB-A 3.0 and two 2.0, headphone output and memory card reader. The Dell also provides very similar options, with a USB-C, HDMI, a USB-A 3.0 and 2.0, plus the card reader. The biggest difference between the two is the lack of RJ-45 port on the G3, being necessary an adapter for cable connections.

Screen

The screen, in both cases, has 15.6 inches and Full HD resolution. Moreover, as from a gamer point of view the display refresh rate is as important as the resolution itself, it is worth noting that both notebooks offer a 60 Hz frequency. Dell even promotes a 144 Hz display option, but the product is not available for purchase on the official website.

Performance

The Dell G3 has more current hardware, bringing newer processors and video cards. The Acer Nitro 5, on the other hand, has recently been updated. Therefore, it still brings eighth generation Intel chips, for example, besides an older Nvidia GPU.

The simpler Nitro 5 comes equipped with GTX 1050, but also appears with GTX 1050 Ti and GTX 1650 in online marketplaces. The Dell notebook is available with the GTX 1660 Ti Max-Q, in addition to GTX 1050 and GTX 1650. Another important difference is the CPUs offered, since the G3 is available with Core i5 and Core i7 ninth generation processors, while the rival model has versions with seventh and eighth generation chips – and only one with more recent component.

Regarding RAM, it is worth mentioning the maximum 16 GB DDR4 available on Nitro 5, against the 8 GB of the rival notebook. Although it is possible to perform an upgrade in both cases, this difference may be interesting for less experienced users.

It is worth mentioning that it is possible to find different options of Acer’s laptop online, with changes in memory and also in graphics, including bringing ninth generation processors and GTX 16 cards.

Storage

The Dell G3 offers a good storage solution with high-speed NVMe SSD. The options are 256 GB or 512 GB, with the possibility to replace the card with another higher capacity disk.

The Acer Nitro 5, on the other hand, offers 128 GB SSD with SATA 3 technology, slower than the NVMe used by Dell. The user can also combine the original storage with a HDD inside the machine, increasing its capacity. This is especially interesting for those who want to save many games, as the game files can be large – while the applications themselves open faster on the SSD.

Battery

In terms of battery, Acer is more powerful and says the Nitro 5 should hold up to 7 hours away from the socket. It is worth noting that the estimate takes into account the moderate use of the laptop. But as the intention when playing is to have maximum performance, that number can be much lower. Dell, for example, has not released an estimate, but only the capacity: the G3 has a three-cell battery with 51 Wh.

Prices and versions

Dell brings the G3 in several versions, which vary depending on the processor, in the options Core i5 9300H or Core i7 9750H, and video card. The most popular model, for example, comes with the GTX 1050, but there are still intermediate versions with the GTX 1650 and the top-of-the-line configuration offers the GTX 1660 Ti Max-Q.  People looking at budget laptops, should consider buying laptop for 30000 price.

The Nitro 5 is no longer available for purchase at Acer’s official store, which should bring its next generation soon. Anyway, the product appears in different options at the e-commerce websites. The simplest of them comes with 8 GB and Core i5 8300H chip, while the more robust version is equipped with Core i7 9750H and GTX 1650 board.
